The Longest Walk
Today was the longest walk I will have on the Camino - almost 33km, over 20 miles. It started out in the rain this morning, actually it was more of a drizzle and ended in sunshine. A half an hour after I arrived at my destination, it poured so I was glad to be inside. Most of the day, I walked along the highway. Lots of traffic leaving the city, but less as we got further away. We did have puddles to navigate. The landscape is changing from the rich farm fields to rocky field and lots of brush. It seems like there are more small farms, very few vistas. I had my strangest conversation today with a guy who was carrying a didgeridoo, an Australian Aboriginal instrument. I asked if he was from Australia and said, “No, Germany.” Which invited another question, “How does a German learn to play this instrument?” He said he learned during Covid while living in Spain and now is street musician as he walks through Europe. He seems like a “professional walker”. Not a lucrative job, but you meet a lot of people. At any rate he asked where I was from and I said, “The United States”. He said I could pass for Australian, so I say, “Buen Camino and Good Day Mate!”
