Showers of Blessing
Today is the halfway point of my Camino; 17 days down, 17 to go. I am over half way in the walk and it turned out to be an eventful day. It rained last and the forecast was for rain while on the Camino. The forecaster was right. I woke up this morning to light rain and it looked like it would be raining all morning. So I took the advice of Becky Hofer and put on my rain pants and headed out the door. About 400 yards down the street I realized there was going to be more rain than I imagined, so I back into town to find poncho. Even with I poncho, rain jacket underneath and rain pants, I got wet. Not as wet as last week, but walking for over 4 hours in steady rain some water soaked through especially on of the feet and arms. Some people bailed and took a taxi, but most trudged on. There were several blessing in the midst. 1) The hotel served eggs and bacon for breakfast and Oreos and Chocolate Chip cookies. The boys and men of our family would have been so happy! 2) I met a couple with friends during the rain who were from Australia. They were part of a Baptist church in Perth where he served on the board and his daughter was a ministry intern. We talked about faith, the church, reaching the next generation, and raising kids. It was fun as we dodged the mud puddles. 3) A little later in the day I met a couple from Korea. He and his wife were chaperoning his mother who wanted to do the walk although she was leaving him in the dust. He spoke great English because he was educated in the US. I am staying tonight in an Albergue and there are a lot of people roaming around. I am having Laundry done for the 2nd time. Tomorrow will be another moderate day. There thunder as I write, glad my day is done. Buen Camino
