A Holy Place
This morning I left Foncebadon about 7:30 and headed for Cruz de Ferro. It was a beautiful morning as the sun was rising and walk wasn’t too bad. Arriving at Cruz de Ferro is a holy experience. When you see all the stones that have been deposited at the foot of that cross representing the hopes and dreams, heartaches and prayers it is awe inspiring. At least while I was there, there was a quietness like you were in a Cathedral. I laid stones of my grandchildren I had carried from California, said a prayer and headed out. The day was long. All the elevation I climbed yesterday and walked down today. I think I like uphills better, but then it nice to have something to complain about while you are admiring the Camino.🙂. I met a guy from Frances and tells me it is easier walking on road instead of rock path. He is right, a few minutes later he stops a car and gets a ride. It is easier riding than walking the road or a rocky path😆. i missed a sign and took the long way around Ponferrada, but my step count is rising - over 750,000. This evening I visited a castle and the scope of it was immense. I have some picks, but the really don’t do it justice. Buen Camino
Cruz de Ferromorning sunrise above Foncebadon
Rocky, muddy path
Sometimes shoe give out so you leave them in a tree on the trail (Hope they have another pair, no place to go barefoot)
Wild flowers are beautiful
Famous bridge and route on Camino through Molinaseca
castle and view from top in Ponferrada
Finally if you need a taxi on the Camino, lots of advertising
Craig, you win the Grampa award for carrying rocks in your backpack! Beautiful scenery and narrative. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteIf I knew you were taking stones I would have given you one for me! Thanks for the updates. I can feel the emotions of seeing the pile of stones at the base of the cross. Daryl
