A Day at the Museum

Just for your info, the red dot on the right is where I started, the red dot on the left is where I am going, and the “You are Here” is “ Where I am At!”

Today was a day touring the city of Leon. Actually I didn’t go far; I stay in the old city but got to see the Cathedral, the San Isidore Museum, and Casa Bontines designed by Antoni Gaudi who also designed Familia Sagarda in Barcelona. Once again the Cathedral was magnificent. It was built in 50 years and its uniqueness is the amount of stain glass. New techniques were discovered which allowed builders to go higher and use lighter materials so that more space could allotted to glass while still keeping the structural integrity. The stain glass is truly amazing, I was surprised there wasn’t more natural light in the sanctuary. The darkness of the glass was not as illuminating as I thought. The San Isidore Museum was a collection of old documents and Bibles as well as some beautiful frescos that go back almost a thousand years. It was built on old Roman ruins. It was also a monastery so had some beautiful statues. Finally Casa Bontines was an early work of Gaudi with innovations in air movement, foundation work, and even a moving statue of a knight slaying a dragon which was a statement of faith for Gaudi. See if you find the story.
