A Cold Morning
Today started out as another day on the Camino. I almost got lost leaving Burgos but 2 new pilgrims from Australian found the clam shell and off we went. It was cold this morning, in the upper 30s when I left at 8am. I have enough layers and a stocking hat so I kept warm with the walk. As we left Burgos there were a number of sculptures symbolizing pilgrims. At different places, art is found along the Camino. In the town of Rabe de las Calzadas there were a number of murals with verses and a picture of a Philippine weightlifter who won the gold medal in 2020. She is a very devout Catholic and I think that is why they celebrate her. On the walk into Hornillos you come down off of the high plain. It feels like you can almost touch the clouds. (That’s the beginning picture). The town of Hornillos is very small and rural. I am staying in a “rural hotel” which has 6 rooms for pilgrims. The owner is receptionist, taxi driver, bar tender, and I believe tonight will be host and server at dinner. I will eat the pilgrim meal here and breakfast in the morning. The walk is taking me into what’s called the “meseta” which is miles after of fields of grain with few trees. I believe the horizon will stretch forever which reminds me of where I grew up in Limon, CO. Buen Camino
