Day 6 - A Rude and Appreciated Wake Up

I woke up at 10:30 pm when the power went on and the lights came on. I quickly plugged in all the chargers, checked the internet (not up), turned off the lights and went back to bed. I want to leave early this morning, but breakfast wasn’t until 7:30 and since I had no cash and a hungry stomach I stayed and headed out about 7:55. It was a long day, almost 29 kilometers and an early start would have helped. I passed over 200,000 steps today (94 miles). I feel good but found a second blister on the other foot. So far there is not a major problem. As I left Los Arcos, I saw 2 genuine pilgrims praying the Rosary. Moving! So far the people I have met on the Camino are walking for a personal challenge, a change of vocation or a holiday to get away. Some like my Korean friend has had some major disappointments in his life and is searching for direction and understanding. In past times, it was God they hoped would answer them on the Camino. I think they are still looking for God and His answer, but is not called the same. At any rate, the Camino gives lots of time to think or as my dad would say, “Ruminate.” This physical terrain is changing. It’s drier and more wind. The wheat fields are beginning to head and winds makes these look like shimmering sea of grass. It reminds me of my boyhood home on the eastern plains of Colorado. In Colorado the grain elevators dot the plains of the small towns the way the cathedral bell tours look over the Spanish communities. It is interesting to see wheat field next to vineyards and olive groves. What a marvelous and wonderful land! At one point in the walk, we came to a place where a memorial had been placed and then added to by hundreds of pilgrims. It was quite moving. In addition ribbons and beads where hung by a tree. When I got to Viana, I found a bank and asked for help. I had not had any success with the ATM and was quite concerned about getting some Euros. The manager was so kind to help and the card worked perfectly. I couldn’t believe it. I almost kiss the man. Once again, my worry was getting best of me. I came away thanking for simply making the ATM work. “Your Heavenly Father knows your needs.” It is the simple answers at the right time which seem to touch me deepest. Logon’s is a beautiful city and tonight had dinner and am ready for bed. Another long walk tomorrow. Buen Camino
